Frequently Asked Questions

Everything You Need To Know About the
Pink Termite Interception System

What is the Pink Termite Interception System?

The Pink Termite Interception System consists of 24 in-ground stations with “tamperproof” caps.

You get 48 specially designed timber monitoring blocks (2 for each in-ground station), a special station “key”, 3 pairs of disposable latex gloves, installation guide, detailed instructions for monitoring the stations, a guide to assist you in identifying termites and step-by-step instructions on how to get the most out of the system.

The Pink Termite Interception System is the best defence against subterranean termites (the most commonly found destructive termites in Australia). Other termite treatment systems (of any type) rarely achieve such a high level of effectiveness.

Plus, the Termite Interception System is designed so that if you do detect termites, treatment agents can be safely and securely installed right into the system. This can save you considerably on termite treatment should it become necessary.

How Does the Pink Termite Interception System Work?

The Pink Termite Interception System is designed for property owners who currently do not have an active termite problem, but would like to manage the risk of termite infestation.

When you purchase the system it becomes your property.

You install the stations in the soil around the exterior of your property at approximately 3 metre intervals as detailed in our installation guide.

As termites forage in soil around the exterior of a property, they come across the specially designed timber monitoring blocks inside the in-ground stations and begin to feed on these blocks. This is because timber in the soil gives off carbon dioxide which termites seek out when foraging for food sources.

When termites are detected feeding in a station, a professional pest manager can be called in to apply colony control agents to the stations in which termites are active.

How can I be sure the Pink Termite Interception System works?

Regularly open and check each in-ground station. You get instructions as to how often you should check the stations in your system kit.

When termites are detected feeding in a station, a professional pest manager can be called in to apply colony control agents to the stations in which termites are active. The application of Insect Growth Regulator (IGR) termite bait is recommended.

Once the termite colony has been eliminated , the system goes back to monitoring mode by the customer and acts as a type of early warning alarm system for further activity from any new termite colonies.

What termite bait is recommended?

We recommend using Insect Growth Regulator (IGR) termite baits. The IGR termite baits affect the ability of termites to produce chitin, the material from which their outer shell is composed.

The worker termites feeding on the bait also feed all the other termites in the colony.

Eventually all of the termites in the colony become affected. Once affected, the termites cannot produce a new “shell” the next time they moult.

As a result the termite colony is completely destroyed.

Are IGR's environmentally responsible?

IGR's present no environmental hazard.

No risk is posed to people or animals and no dangerous residue is left in the soil following treatment. They are termite-specific treatment agents.

What can I do to prevent termites?

  1. Avoid direct wood to ground contact when building patios or decks. Leaking water pipes drainage problems and roof leaks should all be fixed promptly, as damp conditions attract termites.
  2. Keep gutters clean all year round.
  3. Don’t allow soil from garden beds to block drainage or ventilation openings in walls or spaces under the floor. Air flow through vents must not be obstructed.
  4. Avoid storing potential termite food sources and watch for termite infestation in piles of timber, old stumps, building refuse near buildings or against outside walls.
  5. When building use termite resistant timber (ask a timber supplier for suggestions)
  6. All timber decking around verandahs and swimming pools (or damp areas) should regularly be cleaned and inspected.
  7. Consider using Metal stirrups for setting pergola, gate and verandah posts into the ground.
  8. Put a maintenance program in place by having regular inspections arranged with a pest controller (termites are most active in early spring to late summer)

What will it cost to have my System baited by a professional termite manager?

This will depend on the termite manager you choose and the method of treatment selected.

In the Sydney area we can provide this service and one of our PestCert accredited, senior termite managers can attend the site for a fee of $99.00 and an additional $22.00 for each station baited. It should be noted that we recommend at least 2 baiting visits for each instance of infestation to allow for additional bait to be added. More visits may be necessary if feeding continues.

We also recommend that a thorough inspection of the property be carried out in case termites have infested the structure, unless such an inspection has been carried out within the previous 90 days. The cost of a full inspection is not included in the above fee but is normally $285.00. If this is carried out in conjunction with a baiting visit, the inspection fee is reduced to $235.00.

Where an inspection detects an active termite infestation within a building, a detailed proposal will be provided for a suitable solution. You are not obligated to accept these recommendations however, if you do, we will reduce the cost by the value of the inspection which does not have to be repeated prior to treatment.
